Mall Management: Operating in Indian Retail Space by Singh and Srinivasan

About the book
Many shopping malls that were developed during initial stages are facing the heat due to a clear mismatch between their offerings and shopper’s expectations. But would shopping malls be in a position to accommodate those changes? And even before that, would people developing and managing shopping malls be in a position to anticipate changes that are likely to come in future? What are the different controllable factors that can be used to mix-and match to come up with the ideal mall-mix? A search for these elements induced the authors to write this book.
Like any other business, mall management needs a holistic approach. That is why the book is split into a number of chapters with each chapter representing a core function involved in the practice of mall management. The authors have ensured that the book highlights key aspects of these functions so that a mall manager is in a better position to understand, appreciate and supervise work in these domains. Apart from the mall managers this book would be a suitable reading for practitioners and students of Retail Management. For researchers the book highlights a holistic view of mall business and would help them in picking up threads for initiating and conducting research on issues that raise curiosity in their minds.

Managing Soft Skills for Personality Development edited by B N Ghosh

About the book
Development is sometimes defined as the process of human capability expansion rather than materialistic acquisition and possession. The importance of the development of inner human potentials has been emphasized by scriptures and religious teachings of great people. The significance of personality development transcends beyond the individual domain and is now recognized as a critical component of corporate success. This is one of the reasons why the modern corporate sector is now engaged in soft skill development to make the hard skill endowment of its professionals more complete, effective and successful. In a labour-surplus economy of India, it is interesting to observe that although the demand for labour is growing rapidly, most of the unemployed labour cannot effectively be absorbed in productive occupations. Many of the unemployed labourers seeking opening in the labour market possess the necessary hard skill but they are not employable.  They are deficient in soft skill and the desirable personality pattern. As a matter of fact, soft skills and desirable personality traits have many things in common and they are complementary in nature, in spite of some minor nuances.  The title of the book reflects an interlocking relationship between what seems to be the two apparently different domains.

About the editor
B. N. Ghosh is a Visiting Professor at Leeds Institute of Management and Technology, Leeds(UK) and formerly, the Director of Institute of Management and Technology, Govt. of Kerala, Punnapra (Kerala).  He received his education from Australia, India,  UK and  USA and has taught in many universities in India and abroad including Universiti Sains Malaysia and Eastern Mediterranean University, Cyprus and has written a large number of books published by multinational publishers including Routledge, Palgrave-Macmillan, Wisdom House, Longman and Ashgate(London)and contributed a large number of research papers in refereed professional journals of India, USA, UK, Cyprus, Malaysia, Singapore, Italy, Bangladesh, Sweden, Korea, the Netherlands  and Philippines.
